Ethiopia has witnessed a troubling pattern of journalists and politicians fleeing the country due to alleged government persecution, including false accusations and arrests. This trend underscores growing concerns about press freedom and political expression in the nation.

These instances reflect a broader pattern of media suppression in Ethiopia, where journalists and political figures often confront harassment, imprisonment, and exile. The Committee to Protect Journalists has documented multiple waves of repression, highlighting the challenges faced by Ethiopian media professionals in their pursuit of independent reporting.

The international community continues to express concern over the state of press freedom and political expression in Ethiopia, urging the government to uphold the rights of journalists and politicians to operate without fear of persecution.

Ethiopia’s growing repression of journalists and opposition figures has led many to flee the country, seeking safety abroad. Despite government claims that these individuals are threats to national security, international organizations argue that their persecution is politically motivated. The situation remains a major human rights issue, drawing increasing global criticism.
