Editorial: Truth Matters. Journalism Is Not a Crime. Ambassador Media Calls for Global Action to Protect Press Freedom in Ethiopia

The right to free expression, the freedom of the press, and the protection of journalists are non-negotiable pillars of any democratic society. Yet today, in Ethiopia, these basic rights are under severe threat.

Ambassador Media has faced relentless persecution simply for doing its duty: reporting the truth. Our office has been repeatedly blocked by federal police and intelligence forces. Our digital platforms have been disrupted. Our journalists and staff have been threatened, detained, and forced into silence through fear and intimidation.

This is not just an attack on Ambassador Media — it is an attack on freedom itself. When journalists are hunted, when the truth is suppressed, when voices are forced into exile, the very foundation of society crumbles.

We refuse to be silenced.
We stand with every Ethiopian who believes in a future built on truth, accountability, and respect for human rights.

Today, we call on the global community, international organizations, and institutions dedicated to defending journalists — such as Reporters Without Borders (RSF), Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ), Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch, and all press freedom advocates — to take urgent action.

We ask them to apply diplomatic, legal, and public pressure on the Ethiopian government to:

  • Cease all harassment and attacks against journalists and independent media outlets.
  • Respect and uphold the constitutional and international protections for freedom of speech and press freedom.
  • Commit publicly to protecting the free flow of information and ideas.

A government that fears the truth is a government that fears its own people.
Silencing journalists does not create peace; it only deepens injustice.

At Ambassador Media, we will continue to shine a light— because truth matters and journalism is not a crime.
Our mission endures. Our voice remains strong.

And we will not stop until freedom wins.
