The International Committee for the Protection of Journalists – CPJ has announced that at least eight journalists have been arrested following the recent protests in Ethiopia.
CPJ has asked the Ethiopian authorities to stop arresting journalists outside the law during the political tension in the country and to investigate the alleged attacks on journalists by the security forces.
From March 25 to April 05/2015. In the last eleven days, security personnel arrested six journalists in Addis Ababa and two in Amhara and Oromia, and two of them were beaten, CPJ said in a statement.
The CPJ statement, which mentions that all the arrested journalists provide reports and analysis on YouTube social media, said that they have been charged with various charges, including inciting conflict.
