Government Forces Open Fire on Protesters in Butajira

The Ethiopian government has once again turned its weapons on unarmed civilians. In Butajira, security forces responded with live fire to peaceful youth protests earlier today.

Residents told Ambassador Media that young people had taken to the streets demanding justice, freedom, and an end to repression. Instead of listening to their grievances, government forces unleashed gunfire to intimidate and silence them. While official reports claim no one was killed or injured, eyewitnesses insist that the crackdown was violent, reckless, and intended to spread fear among the population.

State Violence Against Its Own People

The government has tried to frame its actions as a defense of national stability. But the use of live ammunition against unarmed protesters cannot be justified as “law enforcement” or “security operations.” It is yet another example of a state that views its citizens not as people to be protected, but as threats to be crushed.

“Every time people raise their voices, the government answers with bullets,” one resident said bitterly. “This is not leadership — this is war against the people.”

Ambassador Media Condemnation

Ambassador Media strongly condemns the Ethiopian government’s attack on peaceful protesters in Butajira. The killing, intimidation, and suppression of citizens who dare to speak out represent not national defense, but a direct assault on Ethiopia’s future and dignity.
