Ambassador Media strongly condemns the Ethiopian federal government’s latest acts of violence in the Tigray region, where a drone strike on civilian trucks in Entcho and Tungabeta has claimed the life of one person and left another seriously injured.
The targeted trucks were carrying essential food supplies and commercial goods, including bananas and oil, highlighting the government’s blatant disregard for the lives and livelihoods of ordinary citizens.
This marks a shocking second round of atrocity in Tigray, coming after renewed clashes in border areas between Tigray, Amhara, and Afar regions since January 17, 2018. Human rights organizations, including the Ethiopian Human Rights Commission (EHRC) and ISEMKO, have warned that these attacks endanger the safety, freedom, and property rights of civilians in the region.
The use of drones to destroy vehicles transporting food is unconscionable. Ambassador Media calls this action not only morally reprehensible but potentially a violation of international humanitarian law. Targeting civilians and essential goods is a deliberate assault on humanity and a continuation of a pattern of terror against the people of Tigray.
The Ethiopian government’s failure to publicly acknowledge the escalation of hostilities only deepens concerns about its accountability and commitment to human rights.
Instead of protecting its citizens, it is once again inflicting suffering, fear, and loss on vulnerable communities.
Ambassador Media demands an immediate cessation of attacks on civilians, full transparency from the Ethiopian government regarding military operations, and accountability for those responsible for this renewed cycle of violence.
The world cannot remain silent as basic human rights are trampled in pursuit of political power.
The people of Tigray deserve protection, humanitarian aid, and peace — not drones raining death on food trucks and communities already scarred by conflict.
