Ambassador Media — July 13, 2025
Ambassador Media has strongly condemned the Ethiopian government following a brutal massacre in Nono District of the Oromia region that claimed the lives of at least 14 civilians, including an entire family. The government is being blamed for repeated failures to protect citizens from escalating violence in rural areas.
According to local sources, the attack took place on the night of Thursday, July 11, 2025, in Qondala Kebele, a village under Nono Woreda. The assault was reportedly a deliberate and targeted act against peaceful residents in their homes.
Eyewitnesses report that the victims were unarmed civilians, ambushed by unknown armed groups. “They were peaceful people,” said one resident who narrowly escaped the assault. “There were no government forces nearby to protect us.”
This atrocity is not an isolated incident. It reflects a pattern of targeted killings in Oromia and other regions, enabled by government inaction and silence. Repeated calls by residents for intervention have reportedly gone unanswered. Critics argue that the government’s vague messaging on the security crisis—often blaming “unidentified armed groups”—has created a climate of impunity.
Since Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed came to power, the Oromia region—particularly areas like Wollega—has witnessed repeated waves of violence. Thousands have been killed over the past few years in similar attacks, with survivors and local communities continuously demanding accountability and protection.
Ambassador Media calls on the international community to speak out and pressure Ethiopian authorities to ensure accountability and restore civilian protection mechanisms across conflict-affected zones.
