More than 7,200 people were arrested in the Amhara region and Addis Ababa

In the last 10 days alone, more than 7,200 people were arrested in the Amhara region and Addis Ababa

several security leaders and civil servants of the Prosperity region have been arrested, including suspected individuals.

more than 7,200 people have been arrested in the Amhara region and Addis Ababa since last week alone. This high level of arrests is said to be unprecedented in recent years and the media has confirmed that some prisons are overcrowded and are being held in schools and warehouses.

In the Amhara region, many students are out of school and farmers are unable to farm due to the war.

Amnesty International pointed out that the action is being carried out on a large scale in the Amhara region and called it an erosion of the rule of law.

Amnesty stated that hundreds of people, including teachers, are being arrested and mentioned that they confirmed that there was not even an arrest warrant when the arrests were made.

The Ethiopian government claims these arrests are part of efforts to restore order, but the EHRC and Amnesty International have criticized the arbitrary nature of the detentions and called for legal procedures to be respected. Despite the government downplaying the scale of the detentions, multiple sources indicate that thousands remain in custody across the country.
