Hundreds of members of the Ethiopian diaspora and supporters gathered in Frankfurt on Saturday in a demonstration organized by the Amhara Association in Germany to protest the ongoing killings of Amhara civilians and members of the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church (EOTC) in Ethiopia’s Oromia region.

The demonstration served as a call for justice, accountability, and international attention to what participants described as continuing violence against Amhara communities and Orthodox Christians. Protesters carried banners, chanted slogans, and demanded immediate action to protect civilians.

The event was presented and covered by Ambassador Media, which played a key role in facilitating media coverage and public outreach. Journalist and activist Muluken Tekleyohanes, representing Ambassador Media, participated in the demonstration, spoke with attendees, and helped distribute informational flyers to local residents in Frankfurt to raise awareness about the situation in Ethiopia.

Participants strongly criticized the Ethiopian government and Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, accusing the authorities of failing to protect vulnerable communities from violence and insecurity. Speakers called for political accountability and urged the government to take immediate measures to safeguard civilians and restore security in affected areas.

Demonstrators also voiced concerns regarding the activities of local militias operating in Oromia and called on the government to end any support for armed groups accused of committing abuses against civilians. Protesters demanded independent investigations into reported killings and called on the international community, human rights organizations, and foreign governments to increase pressure for accountability and justice.

The event was presented and covered by Ambassador Media. Journalist, media representative, and activist Muluken Tekleyohanes attended the demonstration to provide media coverage and to advocate for human rights, freedom of expression, and the protection of journalists in Ethiopia. During the event, he helped distribute informational flyers to local residents in Frankfurt and joined calls for justice for victims of violence as well as for journalists who have been detained, imprisoned, or subjected to persecution because of their reporting.

Participants expressed concern about journalists who have been jailed in Ethiopia for their reporting and public advocacy. Demonstrators called for the immediate release of detained media professionals and urged Ethiopian authorities to respect press freedom, freedom of expression, and the rights of journalists to work without fear of intimidation, harassment, or imprisonment. Protesters emphasized that a free and independent media is essential for accountability, transparency, and the protection of human rights.

Throughout the event, organizers emphasized that their struggle is for human rights, justice, religious freedom, and the protection of innocent civilians. They urged international institutions not to remain silent in the face of ongoing violence and humanitarian suffering.

The Amhara Association in Germany stated that it will continue advocating for the rights and security of Amhara communities and Ethiopian Orthodox Christians while working with international partners to bring greater attention to the situation in Ethiopia.

The Frankfurt demonstration concluded with a renewed appeal for peace, justice, accountability, and the protection of all civilians affected by conflict and violence across Ethiopia.
