Ethiopia’s “Peace Deals” Exposed: Ambassador Media Demands Truth, Justice, and Real Change

Ambassador Media – Special Report & Statement | December 2025, Germany

The Ethiopian government continues to stage political theater disguised as peace agreements, signing papers with individuals who do not represent the fighters on the ground, then claiming “victory” through state media. Meanwhile, the Amhara people continue to suffer as fighting intensifies across the region.

A month ago, Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed told Parliament that he negotiated only with General Tadesse Werede (Tsedkan) and Getachew Reda in Pretoria — insisting that they alone were “affected by the agreement.” But this so-called success is now widely seen as a tool to mislead both the Ethiopian people and the international community, presenting a facade of stability while war continues.

Following the same pattern, Amhara Regional State President Arega Kebede paraded Maseru Sete to Bahir Dar, signed a “peace agreement,” and declared that the Amhara conflict was resolved. Yet the reality is starkly different: residents across North Shewa, Gojjam, Wollo, and Gondar report ongoing clashes, road blockages, and military operations.

Even more revealing, Arega openly admitted that Maseru Sete would effectively be under federal oversight — a prisoner of Addis Ababa rather than a true representative of the Amhara Fano movement. Signing a captive as a “peace partner” does not create peace.

Oromia Regional State President Shimelis Abdisa mirrored this strategy, announcing agreements with OLF-Shene’s Jal Seni — and then immediately threatening renewed military action. These contradictions expose the truth: the government is performing for cameras, not negotiating real peace.

Even the Pretoria accord — touted as a landmark success — is collapsing. The supposed Tigray negotiators, Getachew Reda and General Tadesse Werede, cannot safely enter their own region due to political tensions. If negotiators cannot return home, how can they represent it?

Ambassador Media Speaks Out

At Ambassador Media, we strongly reject the government’s manipulation of peace narratives. We stand firmly with the Ethiopian people, who are being misled by staged agreements and selective messaging designed for foreign audiences.

We believe Ethiopia deserves:

  • Transparent, accountable governance
  • Inclusive national dialogue with real representatives
  • Genuine peace agreements, not photo-ops
  • Protection of human rights and freedoms
  • An end to militarized politics and propaganda

The government’s current approach — signing individuals like football players and presenting them as “peace achievements” — is not peace. It is propaganda. The war in Amhara continues. Families remain displaced. Roads remain unsafe. Humanitarian conditions worsen.

We call for genuine political transformation rooted in:

  • Rule of law
  • Democratic accountability
  • Respect for regional autonomy
  • Leadership chosen by and answerable to the people

We do not call for destruction. We call for renewal. We do not call for chaos. We call for people-centered, constitutional change.

The World Must Hear the Truth

Foreign diplomats and international organizations cannot rely solely on government statements. Ethiopia’s crisis will not be solved through televised signings or selective narratives. Peace cannot exist while fighting continues. Stability cannot exist while citizens live in fear. Accountability cannot exist while propaganda replaces truth.

Ambassador Media will continue to:

  • Expose official misinformation
  • Amplify voices of citizens and communities
  • Advocate for human rights and justice
  • Demand accountability at every level
  • Push for peaceful, democratic government change

We stand with the people. We stand for truth. We stand for justice. We stand for a new Ethiopia.
